Fermion is investing in new pilot scale flow chemistry equipment in Espoo plant. This will provide possibilities for novel chemistry with better processes and improved efficiency.
Flow chemistry is seen as an innovative manufacturing technology which has also benefits for process safety and sustainability. For example, hazardous oxidation and chlorination reactions can be done with high process safety. It is designed for GMP production with room classification of ATEX Zone 1 and it has 15 reaction plates with 130ml reactor volume.
Flow chemistry in pilot scale is first step in plans to implement it also to commercial scale in Oulu and Hanko plants. Pilot scale flow chemistry equipment is ready for use during H1 2025.
